With a long history as a foot race, ‘The Brackenbury’ has evolved to become a very popular 1-day mountain bike challenge that is very much grass roots with a focus on fun. Since the first MTB edition held in 2011 the course has been continually evolving and we now have a well established route through the Creswick State Forest with a number of iconic sections of trail which keep riders coming back year after year. Although we welcome riders of all abilities there is terrain that will challenge everyone from the most hard-core racer to the weekend warrior.
The race format is a single 25km loop starting and finishing at the Hammon Park trail head. Racers have the option of 1 lap or 2. There will also be a 2.8km prologue lap with a climb designed to spread the riders out before heading out onto the course proper. There is approximately 540m of elevation gain per lap with numerous short and steep sections. There will be a neutral feed zone at the half way point with water, lollies and lots of positive encouragement!
Treat it as a race or treat it as a personal challenge, or just a day out with the family or your riding mates. Its up to you.
The Brackenbury MTB challenge has played an important part in the promotion of outdoor activity and recreational tourism in the Creswick area, and earlier in 2017 the State Government announced $2.56 million in funding to construct 100km of world class mountain bike trails with Hammon Park in Creswick as its trail head. We hope to see The Brackenbury course showcasing this fantastic new facility in the not too distant future.
